Science should be accessible to everyone! See what we do at the Silesian Science Festival Katowice so as not to hinder access to knowledge for people with disabilities and non-standard needs.

Wheelchair-accessible building

We chose the International Congress Centre as the venue for the Festival, which allows stroller and wheelchair access to each room. A detailed description of the building’s accessibility can be found on the ICC website.

Accessible toilets

The facility has toilets accessible to wheelchair users and toilets where babies can be changed.

Appropriate height and width

When designing service points and exhibition stands, we make sure that the service is always at a height accessible to children and people sitting in wheelchairs. When designing communication routes, we make every effort to maintain a width that allows passage for a person in a wheelchair and passage with an assistant.

Digital accessibility

Festival multimedia is regularly verified for digital accessibility. We check whether our materials are accessible to blind and hearing-impaired people. We do our best to supplement graphics with alternative descriptions and videos with subtitles, helpful for foreigners and people with hearing loss.

We use understandable language

Science goes beyond the walls of universities, and scientists always try to present it in a form accessible to everyone. Be sure to ask questions!

We help in having a full experience

Some of the exhibits can be touched, smelled and seen up close, making learning accessible also to blind and visually impaired people!

Rest areas

They are located in various places around the Festival space. You can sit there and relax for a moment.

Relaxation Room

In conference room no. 5, we have created a space that allows you to cut yourself off from excess stimuli in comfortable conditions. We especially welcome people on the autism spectrum, as well as people who need to feed and calm their child and help him or her fall asleep.

We interpret into sign language

All events on the festival Main Stage – both live and broadcast – are interpreted into sign language. An interpreter can be ordered for all events requiring registration. A sign language interpreter is always available at the Festival in the Lower Lobby. Be sure to use their services as needed!

Hearing aid technologies

All festival stages are equipped with a system that communicates directly with hearing aids or implants. Thanks to this, every hearing-impaired person can listen to lectures while blocking themselves from distractions of their surroundings.

Accessibility Point

We have opened Accessibility Point in the Lower Lobby where we do our best to answer all non-standard questions. Volunteers will be waiting for you there, ready to help you.
