During this year’s edition of the Silesian Science Festival Katowice, we invite you to the Gaming Zone, where we will talk, among others, about video and board games, we will play some titles together and enter the area of ​​amazing technologies and solutions that allow us to immerse ourselves in virtual and board game worlds!

In the Gaming Zone you will see numerous exhibition stands that will reveal to you the game making processes. You will also see what a wonderful tool games can be in education!

On the Gaming Zone Stage you will hear from experts from the gamedev industry, creators of video and board games, as well as educators who use games in teaching pupils and students. You will be able to listen to game experts from Poland and abroad who research various aspects of games (historians, archaeologists, cultural experts). The special guests of the Gaming Zone include: Souvik Mukherjee, PhD, Paweł Frelik, PhD, DLitt, Assoc. Prof. of the University of Warsaw, Wacław Kulczykowski, PhD, Grzegorz Wątroba, Mateusz Witczak, Bartłomiej Kluska, PhD, Krzysztof M. Maj, PhD and Magdalena Kozyra, PhD.

In addition, you will have the opportunity to hear presentations on, among others, how games were played in the Middle Ages, how games are taxed and how the law works in the world of computer games.

The Gaming Zone programme and Gaming Zone Stages were prepared by members of the Game Studies Research Centre of the University of Silesia in Katowice, responsible for the content and technical aspects: Weronika Cygan-Adamczyk, MA, Michał Kłosiński, PhD, DLitt, Assoc. Prof., Joanna Mercik, PhD, as well as Anna Nawrot (Accessibility Coordinator at the University of Silesia and ŚFN).

The Gaming Zone can be found in the ballroom of the International Congress Centre.

The 8th Silesian Science Festival KATOWICE will take place on 7–9 December and will be the culmination of the entire year of celebrations of awarding Katowice the title of European City of Science 2024.
