The March edition of ŚFN on Tour is over! This time, we visited the 7th Knowledge Festival at Secondary School No. 1 in Wodzisław Śląski with our mobile science zone. Check out the attractions that awaited visitors!
On Friday, 21 March, ŚFN on Tour – Seeds of Science was part of a very interesting event. The mobile ŚFN zone visited the 7th Knowledge Festival held at Secondary School No. 1 in Wodzisław Śląski. This unique initiative aimed to promote science among young people – so we couldn't afford to miss it!
Visitors to the mobile science zone of ŚFN on Tour – Seeds of Science could look forward to a whole lot of attractions. We prepared a ŚFN Katowice stand for the participants of the Knowledge Festival, an information zone of the Candidates and Alumni Office of the University of Silesia and four fascinating lectures by scientists from the University of Silesia.
ŚFN on Tour – Seeds of Science at the 7th Knowledge Festival
Young people participating in the Knowledge Festival had a unique opportunity to see how one of the largest popular science events in Europe is organised! At the Silesian Science Festival Katowice stand, we took a look behind the scenes of this event and explained why it is worth joining us at the 9th edition, which will take place from 6 to 8 December at the International Congress Centre.
The information and promotion zone of the Candidates and Alumni Office of the University of Silesia was an extremely valuable source of knowledge about studying at the University of Silesia. Those interested could learn more about the amazing opportunities offered there. The office staff talked about many issues relevant to future students, such as the course of recruitment for studies, admission criteria for specific fields of study, and the organisation of the academic year. It was also a great opportunity to learn about the range of courses available at the University of Silesia.
As part of the ŚFN on Tour – Seeds of Science, four very interesting lectures were also held at Secondary School No. 1 in Wodzisław Śląski, given by scientists from the University of Silesia. Prof. Robert Musioł, Director of the Institute of Chemistry at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Silesia, gave two lectures entitled ‘Where do medicines come from?’. The scientist talked about the fascinating process of creating new medicines and gave an insight into the history of ancient methods of treatment.
The third and fourth lectures, ‘Recognising dangerous weather phenomena using modern remote sensing methods’, were given by Artur Widawski, PhD – a geographer, climatologist and Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University of Silesia. The scientist's lecture focused on the problem of progressive global warming and the process of recognising dangerous weather phenomena using modern technologies.
ŚFN on Tour - Seeds of Science is now over, but we encourage you to participate in the upcoming 9th Silesian Science Festival in Katowice. Like every year, we have planned a lot of unique activities that will reveal the fascinating world of science to you. See you there!
