We invite young science enthusiasts to participate in the first edition of the ‘SChOOL Science – European Funds for Young People’ competition.  The competition is aimed at primary and secondary school students from the Silesian Voivodeship who want to change the world for the better, have an impact on the world around us, and win valuable prizes!

What is the SChOOL Science – European Funds for Young People competition all about?

Primary school students will be challenged to explore one of three topics:

   schoolyard,

   my Smart City,

   transport of the future.

Students in grades I-IV are required to prepare an artwork in a minimum format of A3 and a maximum of B1. Entries for this age group are individual. However, pupils in grades V-VIII are tasked with creating a mock-up, model, or graphic design. Applications will be accepted until 14 November 2025 via the application form. Enrolment is carried out by the teacher on behalf of the students. Attractive prizes await the participants, and the winners’ works will be presented during the 9th Silesian Science Festival Katowice!

Secondary school students, on the other hand, are invited to develop innovative solutions or modify existing ones that support the sustainable development of our region and are ecologically sound. We are looking for creative and unique ideas that fit into one of the selected thematic zones of the Silesian Science Festival Katowice:

medicine and health – a treatment for the future

ecology – technological innovation to support the transition towards a low carbon economy and green economy,

transport – an environmentally friendly approach to transport, convenience for all,

   youth development in the region,

senior policy, support for the elderly – ideas for improving the lives of seniors, support for healthy lifestyles, medicine, etc.

social inclusion – fostering the inclusion of different social groups in shared life.

Applications can be individual or group (up to a maximum of 5 people). You can send them in until 24 October 2025 via the application form. Enrolment is carried out by the teacher on behalf of the students. In the first stage of the competition, participants describe their project idea. On the basis of the description, the competition jury selects 10 works to proceed to the second stage. As part of this stage, participants will be required to prepare a prototype under the supervision of a research tutor from the University of Silesia and submit a short video of their work on it by 30 November. All projects qualified for the second stage will be presented during the Silesian Science Festival to the participants and the jury, which will select and award the best prototypes. Financial and special prizes will be awarded to the winners on the festival stage on 8 December.

The competition is being held by the University of Silesia in Katowice and the Silesian Voivodeship under the patronage of the Marshal of the Silesian Voivodeship, as part of the 9th Silesian Science Festival Katowice.

We look forward to receiving all submissions – show us your creative and innovative ideas!
