The City of Science Declaration is an initiative aimed at integrating all inhabitants of the Silesian Voivodeship towards a common goal. This goal is to build a space for meetings, conversations and various activities that will result in the transformation of our region into an even better place to live. The City of Science Declaration is the result of activities undertaken as part of the celebration of awarding Katowice the title of European City of Science 2024. The year of ECSK 2024 was filled with events, debates and other activities during which we celebrated the scientific richness of our region. However, receiving this honourable distinction by the City of Katowice is only the beginning of the huge changes that await us in the coming years.
The transformation of our region’s identity is inevitable. Intensive exploitation of natural resources has devastated our environment and the health of many generations of Silesian inhabitants. During the ECSK 2024 celebrations, many ideas were created on how to diagnose and repair the damage left behind by the industry, and how to continue the idea of the City of Science in the future.
We believe that science is the new industry in Silesia! Thanks to science, education and art, we will be able to repay the debt owed to the environment and the inhabitants of cities and villages in our voivodeship. We will use the potential of science – our common good – to transform the region into an even better place to live. We want to live in the City of Science and work together for change and development!
The ceremonial signing of the City of Science Declaration will take place during the Night of the City of Science, which will be part of the 8th ŚFN Katowice on Saturday, 7 December at. 7.00 p.m. on the Main Stage. The declaration will be signed by the rectors of universities associated in the Academic Consortium Katowice City of Science and all interested parties who find the idea of the City of Science close to their hearts.
