For over ten years, solarpunk has been making its presence felt increasingly in the collective imagination. Going hand in hand with the concepts of degrowth, energy transition and ecological thinking, it offers an optimistic, utopian vision of a society that has abandoned capitalism and fossil fuels in favour of more communal forms of organisation and renewable energy sources. It is supposed to express opposition to the current state of affairs, but does it actually do so? How much of this rebellion is genuine anger and desire for change, and how much is just pretense?
