[The language of this activity is English] The aim of the lecture with workshop elements is to provide an introduction to the runic script and signs used in early medieval England in the broader cultural context of northern Europe before c. 1000 A.D. We will look at the origins of runes, their significance, the riddles encoded in them and their various uses and emanations in elected English inscriptions, carvings and manuscripts. The lecture-workshop will also be an invitation to engage in some hands-on exercises related to runic writing and reading runes.
