Although the Roman Empire never encompassed the lands of present-day Poland, the Romans' knowledge of them was surprisingly extensive. Starting with the so-called Agrippa Map from the Augustan era, through the expedition to the Baltic and the establishment of the Amber Route, to the participation of Roman reinforcements in the war waged in Gdańsk Pomerania, the references appearing in the sources clearly testify to the lively interest in this part of Barbaricum.
