EuroScience Open Forum 2022 Regional Site in Katowice

The city of Katowice is currently preparing to accept the title of European City of Science 2024! One of the first steps in this direction is the organisation of the conference ESOF 2022 Regional Site. The meeting will take place on 15 July and organised as a side event to the main meeting of the EuroScience Open Forum 2022 in the Dutch city of Leiden.

It is the city currently holding the title of the European City of Science 2022. The ESOF conference will be held from 13 to 16 July. We would like to invite you to Katowice’s event, which you can attend after a free-of-charge registration via the registration form (it allows you to select the thematic panels that are of interest to you). If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at

The programme of the conference in the International Congress Centre in Katowice includes thirteen 75-minute on-site sessions, four of which will be streamed online to Leiden. The sessions will be attended by the universities forming the Katowice consortium of the European City of Science 2024, as well as invited representatives of Polish and foreign scientific centres, experts representing business, cultural institutions and the media. Katowice is the first city in Central and Western Europe to hold the title of European City of Science. This success is the result of a joint effort by the City of Katowice and the academic community.

EuroScience Open Forum is a European hybrid event engaging in dialogue on science, technology, politics and society. It is a platform for exchanging experiences and presenting the latest scientific achievements, innovations and technological development. The ESOF brand attracts scientists, politicians, business people and media representatives from all over the world to the host cities. The title of European City of Science makes it possible to increase the involvement of the region’s inhabitants and scientific community in solving local problems. It also strengthens the possibilities of obtaining funds for the implementation of investment plans in regional science, increases the tourist attractiveness of the city and the impact of local universities on all spheres of life, growing their recognition in the international arena.

The capital of Upper Silesia, for years associated mainly with mines and steelworks, is currently undergoing a transformation, with science as its new industry. Katowice is now a thriving academic centre and a place for the development of modern technologies and the dissemination of research. Chemical and biological sciences, medicine, technology, social sciences, humanities, education, and art are among the areas developed in the city. This is where we organise the Silesian Science Festival KATOWICE - one of the biggest science communication events in Europe and the world!
