6th ŚFN KATOWICE to feature Karol Wójcicki

We continue introducing the special guests who will perform at the 6th edition of the Silesian Science Festival KATOWICE in early December. One of them will be the leading Polish promoter of astronomy, Karol Wójcicki.

Karol Wójcicki is a passionate photographer of the night sky, promoter of astronomy, science journalist, and TV presenter. He is also the creator of the largest astronomy fanpage in Poland, “Z głową w gwiazdach” [With your head in the stars].

He travels all over the world in pursuit of solar eclipses. He spends two months a year behind the Arctic Circle, chasing the aurora borealis. At the same time, he loves to lie on the terrace at his home, watching for meteors falling from the sky.

He has turned his passion for astronomy into a way of life. He has organised one of the largest joint observations of the night sky in the world (for 12,000 people!) and many other popular science events.

Karol Wójcicki

He is a frequent guest of TV and radio programmes, a contributor to "Gazeta Wyborcza", and has hosted popular science programmes on Discovery Science and TVN Turbo. He is a teacher of astronomy at Eureka Primary School. From 2008 to 2016, he was associated with the Copernicus Science Centre. Currently, he reveals the secrets of the Arctic to others during aurora observation expeditions.

He is the winner of the Populizer of Science 2015 award granted by the former Ministry of Science and Higher Education and the Polish Press Agency.
