Let us continue with presenting the guests to appear at the 6th Silesian Science Festival KATOWICE. Today, we present to you one of the most colourful personalities in Polish culture — a doctor of humanities, writer, publicist, social activist, reading promoter, as well as... a singer of a punk band — Sylwia Chutnik.
Our guest is a cultural studies expert by education and a graduate of the Gender Studies degree programme at the University of Warsaw. She is a member of the Polish Writers' Union and the Literary Union, as well as a curator of multiple literary initiatives and festivals (among others, the International Literature Festival Apostrophe and Literary Café at the OFF Festival). She taught at the Institute of Polish Culture of the University of Warsaw and the Maszyna do Pisania [Typewriter] writing school. Her columns can be read in Polityka, Pani, Wysokie Obcasy, Gazeta Stołeczna and many websites. She co-hosted such literary programmes as Cappuccino z książką, Zapomniani – odzyskani in TVP Kultura, and Barłóg literacki.
Her texts have been published in anthologies as well as in catalogues for contemporary art exhibitions and theatre programmes (e.g. Grand Theatre — National Opera, Bunkier Sztuki Gallery, Nobel Museum in Stockholm). She has guest-published in the Polish and foreign press. Sylwia Chutnik's academic texts have been included in more than 20 compilations and collective works. She has received scholarships from Homines Urbani (2008), the Books from Lithuania Institute (2009), the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage (2010), the City of Warsaw (2010) and the Goethe Institute (2010).
She is a laureate of many literary and social awards. She sits, among others, in the Chapter of the Olga Rok Award, the Civic Chapter of the Scientific Awards of 'Polityka' and the Council of the Feminist Fund.
She is also the singer of a punk band ‘Zimny Maj’ and the host of the ‘Radio Sylwia’ podcast and the ‘Elgiebete TV’ video series.
