Science on the radio — Radio 357 Stage at the 6th ŚFN

In a world full of disinformation and information chaos it is important for science to have a loud and distinct voice. So, where is a voice more important than in radio industry? Once again, Radio 357 will be a media patron of the Silesian Science Festival KATOWICE and will have its own stage during this year’s edition.

Before we got flooded with popular science vlogs and YouTube channels, and even before the era of cable TV, radio was the primary medium providing all kinds of information to its audience. And although vision seems to have more advantages than sound when it comes to, for example, presenting experiments or showing the natural world, voice and sound alone, if properly managed, can have a stronger effect on the imagination than video images.

Radio 357, which is the media partner of the Silesian Science Festival KATOWICE, is also associated with ŚFN ambassadors — Jarosław Juszkiewcz, Tomasz Rożek, PhD, and Prof. Katarzyna Kłosińska, who can be heard regularly on the radio station.

Aside from the above-mentioned persons, many renowned scientists and journalists will take the floor at the Radio 357 Stage. The festival audience will also have the opportunity to take part in radio workshops, listen to interviews, and meet ŚFN guests.

One of the speeches will be given by Professor Katarzyna Klosinska, a promoter of the Polish language and President of the Polish Language Council from 2019. For many years, she hosted weekly programmes on Polish Radio Bis, and later on Polish Radio III, she was responsible for the programmes ‘Skąd się biorą słowa’ [Where do words come from] and ‘Co w mowie piszczy?’ [All about speech].

Tomasz Stawiszyński — a philosopher, publicist, and essayist will also participate in meetings on the 357 Stage. He has been involved with Radio TOK FM for many years, where he hosted, among others, ‘Godzina filozofów’ [Philosophers’ Hour] and the ‘Kwadrans dla filozofa’ [15 Minutes of Philosophy].

Festival participants will have the opportunity to listen to a debate on women in diplomacy, which will be moderated by Renata Jankowska, PhD, Assoc. Prof. — coordinator of the Academy of Diplomacy at the Open University of the University of Silesia in Katowice.

For the second time in the Festival's history, an open-air programme entitled ‘Patronautics’ by Radio 357, hosted by Marcin Cichoński, will be broadcast from the ŚFN grounds on Sunday, 4 December.

In addition, on Stage 357, there will be an opportunity to take part in radio workshops led by experienced journalists. Aside from introducing the theoretical basics of working in front of the microphone, the workshop will primarily involve practical exercises.

Radio 357 was founded in 2020. Its originators and founders are journalists associated with the Polskie Radio Program III for many years. The radio station does not broadcast commercials and has been sustained from the beginning by voluntary contributions from patrons (listeners and companies) — via the Patronite.pl platform.

You can read the detailed stage and activity programme in the official programme of the 6th ŚFN KATOWICE (the English version will be made available soon).

The 6th Silesian Science Festival KATOWICE and Science Festivals EXPO are co-financed by the Ministry of Education and Science under the ‘Social responsibility of Science’ programme.
