The 6th Silesian Science Festival KATOWICE is about to start! A big event for all those hungry for knowledge will begin with the Opening Gala, which this year will take place in Chorzów.
The host of the 6th ŚFN Opening Gala is the Silesian Voivodeship. The Gala will take place in Planetarium - The Silesian Science Park, which opened to visitors in June after more than four years of break due to renovation. The ceremonial inauguration of the 6th ŚFN KATOWICE will begin on Saturday, 3 December at 7.00 p.m.
The Opening Gala will be an event full of music, words, gestures and, of course, science. We will start with the musical part with the participation of, among others Rector of the University of Silesia and the General Director of the Festival, Prof. Ryszard Koziołek, who will play the role of a lector talking about the transformation of Silesia and its role in contemporary culture.
After this poetic introduction, the official part of the event will begin, during which representatives of the Silesian authorities and universities co-organising the festival - with a little help from science - will open the sixth edition of the ŚFN.
While visiting the Planetarium, we couldn’t miss the chance to take advantage of its fantastic educational opportunities. During the Opening Gala, we will look at the sky for a moment and embark on a fascinating journey through the recesses of space.
This trip, in turn, will be a pretext to start a discussion about how space research can contribute to the improvement of living conditions on Earth. The debate will be led by Łukasz Lamża, PhD - natural philosopher, scientific journalist and one of the ŚFN ambassadors. His interlocutors will be: Prof. Grzegorz Wrochna – chair of the Polish Space Agency, Agata Daszkowska-Golec, PhD, DSc, Associate Professor from the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University of Silesia, and Mark McCaughrean - astrophysicist, science and exploration advisor at the European Space Agency (ESA). The scientists' debate will be conducted in English.
The pool of free tickets for the Opening Gala sold out quickly, and due to the limited number of seats in the audience, we cannot offer additional tickets. However, we invariably invite you to the International Congress Centre in Katowice (MCK), because it is there that the main part of the sixth edition of the Silesian Science Festival KATOWICE takes place on 4 and 5 December!
The festival is an ideal opportunity to meet the living world of science - you can talk to scientists, get to know their work and take part in science shows!
You can't miss it! Get to know all festival activities and choose something for yourself! Then download the festival pass and come to the MCK on 4 or 5 December (or on both of those days).
