As the only Pole who has been selected for the new 2022 class of European Space Agency (ESA) astronauts – Sławosz Uznański, PhD will be a special guest of the 6th edition of the Festival. The astronaut will take part in many activities.
The scientist deals with space in many of its aspects. He has been cooperating with the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN) for years, including working as the Engineer in Charge of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in 2018 and 2021. Research conducted at the local centre allows us to understand the world of elementary particles and discover the fundamental laws of nature.
Uznański’s research interests include the Universe and space industry. He has delivered several lectures and conducted numerous workshops on designing space systems. He has also reviewed many commercial satellites, e.g. ICEYE or projects related to the Polish space sector: PW-SAT2, HyperSat and EagleEye.
He has authored a book on radiation effects in electronic systems and co-authored over 50 articles in journals and speeches at scientific conferences.
Within the 6th ŚFN, Sławosz Uznański, PhD, participates in several activities, including:
– Opening Gala of the 6th Silesian Science Festival KATOWICE in the Planetarium - The Silesian Science Park (Saturday, 3 December at 7–9 p.m.),
– meeting with Tomasz Rożek, PhD and Luka Parmitano – ESA astronaut on the ‘I Like Science Stage’ (Sunday, 4 December at 2.30–3.15 p.m.),
– interview on the Main Stage hosted by Milena Ratajczak, PhD and the ŚFN ambassador Jan Pomierny from Science Now (Sunday, 4 December at 4.10–4.35 p.m.),
– meeting with the Festival participants at Maria Skłodowskia-Curie Science Station (Sunday, 4 December at 5.10–5.40 p.m.).
