Motorsport Zone (not only) for motoring fans

As each year, the Silesian Science Festival KATOWICE will offer the visitors a couple of special zones. During the 7th edition, one of them will be the Motorsport Zone, in which the participants will be able to familiarise themselves with the broad applications of science in various types of motorsports. The coordinator for this year’s special zone will be Mikołaj Sokół, a journalist and F1 expert.

Engines and test tubes

Car, motorbike, and cross-country rallies and other motorsports have admirers among old and young alike. Nowadays, there isn’t a single person who hasn’t heard about Formula 1 or didn’t attend a single rally. But whether you are a die-hard fan or a complete layman, the Motorsport Zone will undoubtedly present you with many fascinating insights into the sport. This year’s specialists will certainly dispel any doubts concerning the use of various branches of science in Motorsports and answer all the questions you might have.

Universal solutions

Motorsport, however, does not have exclusive access to the solutions developed for its benefit. Participants of the 7th ŚFN KATOWICE will have the opportunity to see how technology created in this way is transferred to our everyday lives, e.g. the use of the rear-view mirror, four-wheel drive, or electronics in the broadest sense. Currently, both car drivers and their passengers take advantage of ideas and technologies initially developed for racing.  How come that motorsport became the driving force behind technological innovation? You will have the opportunity to find out at this year’s ŚFN.

Eco-friendly F1

In addition to solutions aimed at streamlining and increasing vehicle performance, the technology used in motorsport is also geared towards the environment. The participants will have the opportunity to find out a little bit about the activities undertaken to decrease its negative impact on the environment. Did you know that since 2014 most of the F1 cars are hybrids, and in 2030 the entire racing series and everything related to it will be carbon neutral? If you would like to find out more about it — make sure to visit the Motorsport Zone!

Pushing the limits

Motorsport, however, does not focus solely on machines. At their centre — as in the case of every sport — are people and healthy competition. How does the human body react to extreme situations? Or how do F1 drivers deal with stress? Does motorsport have an influence on their mental health? But first and foremost — where are the limits of human capabilities and can they be expanded? Motorsport constantly searches for the answers to the issues of human physiology and psychology, attempting to understand their fundamental mechanisms. During this year’s ŚFN, the audience will have the opportunity to find out what the essence of motorsport is and to learn how motorsport contributed to the development of science focused on human research.

So, whether you are interested in biology, technology, or ecology, there is undoubtedly something for you in the Motorsport Zone. All this and more during the 7th Silesian Science Festival KATOWICE, which will take place from 9 to 11 December 2023.
