Videogames remain important media inasmuch as they promote the message of climate change. These messages, however, should not be taken at face value because there are some inherent biases (for example, the algorithmic bias) that straightforwardly reflect the lack of environment consciousness characteristic of colonialism. Due to the immensity of the subject and the unknowing persistence of colonial thinking, much of these get reproduced. This paper suggests alternative approaches to global climate-change through digital games.
Both as a standalone discussion and a continuation of the previous talk, this session looks at how videogames do Science Fiction and how again colonialist positions are privileged in the SF narratives of videogames. What happens though when we do SF differently and more inclusively? This talk is going to address Chattopadhyay's concept of the mythologerm and Subaltern SF in relation to videogames.
